About The Artist

Christopher Lewis was born in Adelaide, South  Australia in 1957 . A graduate of Queensland College of Art in 1977 he has lived and worked in Sydney since 1978. His exhibiting debut was in “Still Life “ at Robin Gibson Gallery, Sydney in 1978 . Fellow exhibiting artists in this group show included Brett Whitely, Tim Storrier and Bryan Westwood.

Christopher Lewis has been a finalist in the Wynne Prize at The Art Gallery Of New South Wales in three occasions . He has held 14 solo exhibitions in Australia and numerous group exhibitions in Australia and in The USA .

At the time of the artists first solo exhibition in Canberra in 1981 his hard edged urban realist paintings were described by the art critic of The Canberra Times as having the cool penetration of a scalpel. In his most recent works his magical realist paintings of Sydney describe a landscape where the harbour, the gardens, the laneways and the rooftops of the inner city create a visual poetry of enchanting stillness.
